Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes the information collected when users engage with APA and how that information is used, shared, and processed.
Information Collection, Use, Retention, and Sharing
APA – The Engineered Wood Association does not sell or share personal data with any third party outside of the organization. However, APA may be legally required to disclose information, if such disclosure is (a) required by subpoena, law, or other legal process; (b) necessary to assist law enforcement officials or government enforcement agencies; (c) necessary to investigate violations of or otherwise enforce our legal terms; (d) necessary to protect APA from legal action or claims and/or (e) necessary to protect the legal rights, personal/real property, or personal safety of APA or its members.
APA uses Google Analytics and YouTube Analytics to collect anonymous user data (“benchmarking”) on usage only. APA uses social widgets (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube) to collect anonymous data on usage only.
APA may collect personal data (“user registration”) for users accessing certain features of the www.apawood.org, www.performancepanels.com, and www.wooduniversity.org websites, including the download of publications, use of the APA Wall Bracing Calculator and APA Force Transfer Around Openings Calculator, the APA Help Desk, and conferring continuing education credits.
User data is voluntarily entered by users at the time of user registration and includes the following: First name, last name, company name, profession, country, city, state/province, zip/postal code, and email address. APA collects personal data for several reasons, including:
- Tracking website usage
- Fulfilling requests, such as for membership, registrations, subscriptions, orders, and information
- Promoting programs events, products, services, offerings, benefits and opportunities
- Customizing, adjusting, and developing content and offerings based on orders and expressions of interest from users and visitors
- Providing and improving the APA website
During user registration, users may consent to being contacted by APA in the following ways: APA Update (monthly newsletter); Designers Circle (quarterly newsletter); and notification of news alerts, seminars, and/or surveys. Users may revoke consent by “opt-out” at any time.
User Access To and Control Over Information
Users may update their information, delete it, or opt out of contacts from us at any time by updating or deleting information on the user profile under "MY APA" > "EDIT PROFILE." We reserve the right, however, to retain information we collect for as long as is necessary to fulfill the purpose(s) for which we obtained the information and thereafter as is necessary or useful to pursue our legitimate business interests.
Registration
In order to access certain publications or tools on our websites, a user must first complete the registration form. During registration, user data is voluntarily entered by users and includes the following: First name, last name, company name, profession, country, city, state/province, zip/postal code, and email address.

Orders
APA requests further information from users ordering items through our online Publication Shop's order form. To buy items from us, users must provide additional contact and financial information. All transactions are encrypted via a third party; user credit card numbers are not collected and saved by APA. This information is used for billing purposes and to fill user orders. If we have trouble processing an order, we'll use the provided information to contact the user.
Security
While there can be no guarantees against the unauthorized access, alteration, loss, or misuse of users’ personal information, we take precautions to protect user information. When users submit sensitive information via the website, the information is protected both online and offline.
Wherever we collect sensitive information like credit card data, that information is encrypted and transmitted securely. Users can verify this by looking for a closed lock icon in the web browser or looking for "https" at the beginning of the address of the web page.
